Jaco, Costa Rica – December 5, 2009
Our Black Sand Beaches Experience Continues – Part 3 finally brings our beachcombing day to an end in the tourist targeted beach town of Jaco, Costa Rica…
Admittedly we had not heard great things about the tourist beach trap known as Jaco. A lot of traveling resources had not been too kind, referring to Jaco as prostitute-ridden with lots of horse poop everywhere on the beach to step on fore-warnings.
Even a lot of the local Ticos will tell you that Jaco is not a paradise if you are expecting one. So we weren’t too hyped about seeing this beach, but figured that since we are here in Costa Rica, we should definitely take at least part of a day to check it out.
And honestly, it was great! Definitely a wonderful surprise, perhaps because we weren’t anticipating too much.
Everyone at the beach was totally laid back. It wasn’t over-crowded and the water was great! John and I got so excited that we ripped off our clothes and literally ran for the water screaming like two little kids.
I think our friend Alex, was pretty amused at our excitement and proceeded to set up a spot for us hang out while John and I splashed around like two crazy chickens.
The waves were huge and the water was comfortable. John and I dived head first straight into the waves and did all our usual silly dancing and hair whipping shenanigans.
And all was fun and games until I stood up from the water and heard John laugh his ass off. My bikini top was completely askew and I hadn’t noticed until I looked down and saw my boobs poking out for all the world to see.
Luckily no one was paying attention except for dirty, pervy John, as I ducked underwater to make some quick adjustments and die from embarrassment! (NO pics included here of my wardrobe malfunction!)
After swimming, we relaxed by the beach to take pictures and watch the local surfers do their thing. John and Alex got to check out the girls in their g-string bikinis, while I got to check out surfer boy bods.
We decided to head to the closest beach bar for a drink. And as we walked there I managed to lose a flip flop I was wearing in the ocean. Now, for those of you who know me this in not an uncommon occurrence or a surprise of any kind.
I’m pretty clumsy AND something like this happened to me before on a stint with my girlfriends in Hawaii. Except in Hawaii my girlfriends died of embarrassment and ran away leaving me to fend for myself and go diving for my shoe in the ocean.
This time I had John and the local surfer kids come to my rescue as they all started running around after my one flip flop. It was pretty awesome. 
So aside from a wardrobe malfunction and me almost losing my shoe, all in all it was a fantastic day ending with a beautiful sunset. Anywhere in the world can be fabulous with the one you love, good friends, great conversation and lots of beer in tow
